Meeting Lee Harvey Oswald in Minsk Part V (Copy)

Recently declassified Kennedy assassination documents reveal that the CIA was involved in the murder. Hardly surprising. Anyone who has visited Dealey Plaza can see a killing field with multiple avenues of escape. Difficult to imagine the Secret Service allowing a president to take such a route unless ordered by higher authority. On top of that, Ruth Hyde Paines’ actions before and after the assassination and her testimony are those of a trained agent. (See 4, below.)
Want some more evidence that Ruth Hyde Paines worked for the CIA? Her interview at the Sixth Floor Museum, a sort of government shrine to the one bullet, one shooter myth and, in strange fashion, to Oswald 1.
After years of recounting her story, Ruth has her patter down cold for the obviously excited interviewer. Mrs. Paines knows when to ring the motherhood bell, but she’s unable to summon tears on cue anymore. And Ruth gives a less polished story about her shock and surprise that the people of Nicaragua, whom she purportedly went to help, accused her of being a CIA agent. 2 But that’s a more difficult fairy tale to sell. Remember Nicaragua and all the CIA shenanigans down there? My goodness, Paines has a habit of being in unusual places at unusual times with unusual people.
More evidence of CIA involvement in the assassination? The fact that my aunt, Marie Hyde, was able to run around communist Russia at will and get pictures of and with Lee Harvey Oswald and then NEVER have to appear before any commission. Astounding. This during a time when Minsk was locked down under government control. 3 And my uncle, who was with her in Moscow? The commission never found him, because someone conflated his wife’s name and his. How could that possibly happen? It couldn’t. 4
How incredibly fortuitous was it that Oswald’s KGB handler defected after the murder of JFK in time to give testimony that Oswald was a lone wolf, nutty sort of guy? Oswald’s purported buddy in Minsk, a person probably told to befriend him, doesn’t believe that Oswald killed JFK. Or that’s what he’s been told to say. Keep the waters muddy. But that’s a topic for a later post. (Video) 5
So, were my aunt and uncle CIA? Maybe, maybe not. They didn’t have to be formally pinned to do work for that agency. Before the rise of institutionalized spying, agents didn’t work for the agencies that we see, so to speak, today. The agencies coalesced around people and events. Think of J. Edgar Hoover constructing the FBI using Prohibition as the excuse. The OSS arising in the World War II era, then reforming into the modern CIA. Homeland Security in the aftermath of September 11th. Before these events and even later, think more in terms of freelancers: Reilly, Ace of Spies, the Hyde family, Christopher Steele. Money, ideology, worldview, power, excitement, blackmail . . . who knows why some loved spy craft or played along.
All of this is interesting, but what does my family story tell us about the JFK assassination? Let’s leave out the important fact that my family can not prove - that my aunt and uncle were in Irving/Dallas in the late summer of 1963. According to documents and the testimony of others, Aunt Marie and Uncle Loren spoke to Oswald in Moscow, Aunt Marie had her picture taken with Oswald in Minsk, Marie drove out of Russia with no problems, and neither ever testified - these facts strongly suggests that elements in Russia and the United States collaborated in the murder of JFK.
Just Russia and the US? There’s evidence that the mob was involved in some fashion. For example, Mark Shaw has spent decades investigating the link between mobster Jack Ruby and the murder of Dorothy Kilgallen, who had now-missing notes from exclusive interviews with Ruby. Jefferson Morley also examines the connection, as do many others. Some also see a link between the murders of both Kennedys, Martin Luther King, and Malcolm X. 6
So, Russia collusion? That’s an old story.
