A Woman For These Times

Leora Levy’s win in the Republican senatorial primary reminds us that Americans are thirsting for honesty and truth. Levy, once a refugee from Cuba, has both on her side. Dick Blumenthal? No. That man of stolen valor, a pawn and rubberstamp for the Democrats, is not in Leora’s league.

I have some suggestions for Levy’s campaign. Although Democrats read my blog, there’s no reason to hide. While political strategy often centers around strategic timing, truth and honesty are timeless. But let’s take a few minutes to look at language and get our footing.

The left is not progressive. Democrats hijacked the term from an early twentieth-century movement of social housekeeping led by upper-middle and wealthy classes, who were not fond of socialists, communists, or the labor movement. So why steal it? Because it sounds so positive, so forward looking, so . . . progressive. Self-described modern progressives actually look back to failed political experiments for their inspiration. The left leaners are, therefore, regressive. Let’s start calling them that.

The regressives are not socialists, either. Socialism is broadly characterized by high taxes, social safety nets, basic medical care, etc. Citizens may own private property and private businesses. Some are rich. They vote in free elections and have more than one political party. Socialism can work in small societies with shared values, such as Scandanavian countries with populations of 10-12 million; especially if they have a rich uncle providing military protection.

Sincerely believing American regressives are communists, who want to outlaw private property, nationalize all businesses and industries, rely on national police, and have one-party rule based on pure democracy - at first. What our founders correctly called mob rule. The state clamps down when mob rule produces chaos, and the party runs the show with lots of infighting among the ruling elites. Pretty nasty.

Now that we have a few terms cleared up, let’s use truth and honesty to sweep aside what Dick and his party believe will be powerful weapons against Levy. That will be part II. Meanwhile, Dick, start packing your bags.
