Pawns and Rubberstamps

Congressional Democrats continually prove that they are nothing more than pawns and rubberstamps. Around here, we call them Joe Courtney and Dick Blumenthal.

Pawns and rubberstamps? I’m not being redundant. There is a subtle difference. Examples are always a good way to illuminate, so let’s start with soft target Joe as pawn. Let’s take - or not, please - Aduhelm. As I mentioned in the June 17th post, Joe sent us a link to the interchange between him and HHS Secretary Beccera in a Congressional hearing at which Joe supposedly roughed up Beccera over Aduhelm. (You can watch the now-edited version. It’s not as amusing, and you may feel moved to donate to a fund for their acting lessons.) Although not Oscar material, Joe Courtney takes direction well. On many other occasions too numerous to count, he shows up for congressional votes and rubberstamps what he is told to rubberstamp. Ever heard him criticize legislation or ideas put out by his party? Didn’t think so. If he develops an independent streak during election season, we’ll know that the party leadership gave him permission to act bold, decisive, and independent. Dick Blumenthal makes a valiant attempt to be his own man and, sadly, sometimes he succeeds, after a fashion. Examples? His legislation to nationalize voting. Airily bypassing the Constitution, which is a document very annoying to the national Democrat leadership, Dick pushed for federal control of elections. Another example? Late-term abortion. Yes, Dick helped come up with that legislation, too. But both issues are dear to the left wing of the Democrat party, so Dick was allowed to use the full scope of his imagination. Joe and Dick are keenly aware that being pawns and practicing rubberstamp governing has not gone unnoticed, especially by the military and their families. Although Dick did condemn Biden’s deadly decisions about how to leave Afghanistan, he seems to have forgotten all about Kabul. Afterall, almost a year has gone by, and Dick has election and abortion laws to edit and shop around. Courtney foolishly supported Biden, but he must be ashamed because his August 16, 2021 statement has been taken down. Interesting. Page Not Found | Congressman Joe Courtney (house.gov)

Last year, Mike France analyzed Courtney’s now-missing statement. France’s analysis was informed by logic and his experience in the military, unhampered by a party narrative. Independent reasoning, logic, and experience - sounds pretty good. Let’s send France to Congress and let Courtney go home to ponder how he went so very, very wrong.* The Afghanistan failure and its enablers like Joe Courtney (theday.com)
