What a Sweet Deal
Now, don’t get ahead of me. Considering the rampant corruption in Connecticut, you might assume that I’m going to write about Governor Lamont’s sweet deals. Not today. The FBI is supposed to be writing up those, so let them do their work.
Right now, I’m talking about the candy that Joe Courtney is holding out. Granted you may wonder which candy I mean - he hands out so much - so I’ll be very clear. Joe breathlessly informed me by email that he is very concerned about my health. Wow! I feel special. He went on to say that Americans pay 10 times more for insulin than people in other countries. Say what! But before I had time to work up a satisfying emotional snit, good old Joe said that he has ridden to the rescue with the Affordable Insulin Now Act, which has passed the House. Thank you, Joe!
Wait a minute. I don’t need insulin - thank God - but didn’t I hear that insulin prices were already down? Let’s check that out. Let’s see . . . oh, here it is. Joe Biden rescinded the Trump Administration Insulin Pricing Rule, which would have lowered prices in 2022. It seems that “health centers” were unhappy, because the paperwork would be annoying. Not as annoying as going into an insulin coma, I’m guessing, and I’m also guessing that completing that paperwork would cut into profits.
So, let’s see if I have this right. Biden’s freeze kept insulin prices high while diabetics waited for the Democrat House of Representatives to vote on a bill, and keeps them high while patients wait for the bill to pass in the Senate. Meanwhile, we know that diabetics who get Covid have a much higher risk of dying. Gosh, did the Democrats wait so Biden, or whoever holds the pen in the White House, will sign the bill during the campaigning season? I’m such a cynic.
Hey, I’m tempted to delete Joe Courtney’s emails without reading them, but I believe in listening to all sides, so I’ll keep looking at them; but if I get cavities from just reading about all the candy on offer, I’m sending Joe my dentist bill.
