Ned Goes To Houston
According to media reports, Emperor Lamont certainly enjoyed March Madness. While Ned laughed and cheered from his prime seats, what about Connecticut? Well, let’s look at the Hartford Police COMPSTAT report for January 1, 2023 until March 31, just before Ned winged away to watch the basketball game and insult all of Houston. 1
In our capital city, eighteen residents were shot, and four were murdered. Rapes were up 30%, robbery 65%, and robbery with a firearm 26%. Some neighborhoods took a heavier hit than others. For example, rape was up 200% in the northeast and 500% in the southwest. The southeast suffered a 100% increase in robbery with a firearm; the southwest a 200% rise in aggravated assault with a firearm in a 28-day period. That’s all in just three months and during cold weather. 2
And how about the peasants back on the Connecticut medieval manor? Think those rape victims are shaking and afraid, or that families are crying over the senseless murders of their parent, child, cousin? I think they are. How many mothers and fathers are trying to keep their kids safe from the released predators who roam our streets? Must be a lot of victims of burglary and car theft still wrangling with their insurance companies while trying to work and pay for food, gas, and oil.
Full disclosure. Crime was down in some categories in some areas of Hartford. To that I say thank you to the police officers out in community deterring crime and dealing with the aftermath. Maybe some of them got to catch up on the game during breaks in dealing with their own version of March madness.
