Thank You, Joe!

Wednesday the 12th of October, downtown New London, CT. A wonderful time for the Republicans. It must have been gratifying for Joe Courtney, too - at first. Before his debate with Mike France, reps for a builders' union stood on a flatbed with a bullhorn screaming Joe's praises. Shouting through the bullhorn, beefy guys took turns declaring that Joe is not a weak man – he is a strong man who is going to take care of them. What an interesting claim.

Does the union actually believe that Joe understands submarines better than Mike France, a former submariner who has a BA and MA in electrical engineering, was the project manager for overhauling the DOLPHIN, and was a Program Manager and Assistant Program manager at EB? And as for infrastructure, military people know that infrastructure is vital to national security. Joe, on the other hand, is a lawyer representing his party. Maybe that’s why China has more subs than we do. Think about that.

During the debate, Joe provided so much entertainment, I laughed out loud more than once. Here’s an example. When asked about assault rifles, Joe railed about the dangers posed by a weapon he couldn't define and then – oh this was beautiful – he began ranting about illegal weapons coming over the border with Mexico. Yes! They do! Thank you, Joe! But I wish you hadn't cut yourself off when the light dawned. Please tell us more about guns, drugs, and trafficked bodies coming over the border. My advice - go with that impulse to spill the truth, it's good for the soul.

But the fun didn't end Wednesday night. Within days, Joe put out a commercial saying that he is persistent. Guess he hopes to dodge accusations that the party ignores his projects until they throw him a bone or two at election time. Dang, Joe, does anybody vet your material? You tacitly admit that your party ignores you, but then you ask us to wait with you. How long should we wait? You farm bill took about ten years.

One more and then I'll stop myself. Joe wrote us a letter bragging about an 8.7% increase in social security. I could write a book about this, but will stick to one point. Now, I know that you're a lawyer and not an engineer who can cope with all that heavy math, but you might come up with solutions grounded in facts. Food is at least 50% higher than last year, gas is about 100% more, home heating fuel – you get the point. Find someone who can run some numbers for the American people. And note to self, Joe: don't vote for bills that will cause massive inflation.

Joe, you're so used to waiting for bones, you think that we, the people, are, too. Go home and take a rest. Mike France can do math.
