Alec Baldwin - A Fishy Case

It’s odd that the Sante Fe District Attorney charged both Alec Baldwin and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer on the set of “Rust,” with negligent homicide and added a gun enhancement charge. But why charge Baldwin at all? DA Mary Carmack-Altwies said that celebrities aren’t immune to prosecution. She added that with safety problems on the movie set, Baldwin should have checked the pistol. How a live round got into the dummy box does not seem to interest the DA. In another strange twist in this case, Andrea Reeb, a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives, wanted to prosecute the case. Reeb had to step down, however, because the law doesn’t allow her to do both jobs at once. Why was she even allowed to try? I guess she’s New Mexico’s Republican counterpart to Connecticut’s Richard Blummenthal. They can’t figure out who they are, but they sure love the cameras. Dave Halls, assistant director, gave Baldwin “a replica of a vintage Colt .45 pistol, pronouncing it “cold” . . . (but) the gun contained dummy rounds, and at least one lead bullet . . . (armorer) Gutierrez Reed . . . (had) loaded the weapons . . . but didn’t realize that actual bullets were contained in a new box of ammunition that arrived on set that day.” Halls copped a plea for a fine and walked - after giving Baldwin the pistol and telling him it was clear. Although I’ve heard a lot of people talk about how they always clear their firearms if someone hands it to them, Alec Baldwin was an actor on a set. He took a prop handgun from the assistant director who, apparently, got it from the person paid to make sure that a gun intended to be pointed at people was loaded with dummies.

So here are my questions: 1. Why not charge the director, producer, and other movie executives for hiring an armorer who “reportedly paid her close friend’s family $50,000 last year so she couldn’t be sued after he was killed in a drunken motorcycle crash?” Why did they trust a woman who handed keys to a drunken man with DUIs to make sure the guns were safe? ‘Rust’ armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed tied to friend's death (nypost.com)

2. Why charge an actor - who is being paid to point a gun at people on a movie and pull the trigger - along with the armorer, who is paid to make sure that gun is loaded with dummies? Isn’t Gutierrez-Reed guilty of negligent homicide?

3. Who put the live rounds in the prop gun and why? Something is fishy about this case.
